Things in Paul Shevchenko’s life aren’t going well; a once successful playwright, his most recent return to the stage is panned by audiences, critics, and even his own wife and daughter. Finding himself alienated from the New York he once knew, Paul makes the impulsive decision to visit his grandmother in Cherkasy, Ukraine. When he wakes one morning speaking fluent Ukrainian, Paul slowly forgets his past life and assumes an entirely new life as Viktor, a native Ukrainian playwright — at the expense of the family he unknowingly leaves behind.
